Local Citation Building Services

Local citation building services that make your details agree everywhere

Every directory listing your old phone number or a previous address chips away at how confident Google is about your business. Our local citation building services clean up what exists, remove duplicates, and build the listings that count.

Citation cleanup for single-location businesses and multi-site brands across the UK and US.

The basics

What are local citation building services?

Local citation building services create and correct mentions of your business name, address, and phone number across directories, review sites, and data aggregators. The goal is not volume for its own sake. It is consistency, so that every source Google checks reports exactly the same details about who you are and where you operate.

Those three details are usually called NAP, for name, address, and phone. When they match everywhere, Google treats your business information as verified. When they conflict, which happens to almost every business that has moved premises, changed a phone number, or rebranded, that confidence drops and your local rankings quietly suffer.

The typical business we audit has around sixty listings it never created, several of them wrong, and a handful of duplicates competing with the real one.

Straight talk

Do citations still matter in 2026?

Honestly, less than they used to, and any agency selling you five hundred citations is selling you a 2015 strategy. Here is the current reality.

Volume stopped being the point years ago. Blasting your details onto hundreds of low-quality directories does close to nothing now and can look manipulative. Thirty accurate listings on sites people actually use beat five hundred on sites nobody has visited since 2014.

Consistency still matters a great deal. This is the part that has not changed. Conflicting addresses and phone numbers across the web create genuine ambiguity, and ambiguity costs you positions in a system built on confidence.

Duplicates are actively harmful. Two listings for one location split your reviews and signals, and Google may suppress both rather than choose. Removing duplicates is often the single most valuable citation task we perform.

So the work has shifted from building to cleaning. If your details already agree everywhere and your duplicates are gone, you may not need much of this at all, and we will tell you that rather than invent work.

Scope of work

What our local citation building services cover

The work runs in a deliberate order. Clean up first, because building new listings on top of bad data just multiplies the problem.

Full citation audit

We scan the directories, aggregators, and review sites that carry local business data and report every listing we find, including the ones you never created.

Inconsistency fixes

Old addresses, previous phone numbers, and name variations corrected at source, prioritising the platforms that feed data onward to others.

Duplicate removal

Duplicate and abandoned listings claimed, merged, or removed so your reviews and signals stop being split across competing entries.

Core listing creation

The platforms that genuinely matter: Apple Maps, Bing Places, Facebook, and the major aggregators, plus the review sites your customers actually check.

Industry directories

Sector-specific listings that carry real weight in your field, such as trade bodies, professional registers, and recognised industry portals.

Local and regional sites

Chambers of commerce, business improvement districts, and local association listings. Fewer of these exist but they carry disproportionate local relevance.

Data aggregator submissions

The upstream sources that feed dozens of downstream directories. Correcting these once fixes errors that would otherwise keep reappearing.

Multi-location handling

Consistent, distinct listings for each branch, with the location data structured so branches do not get merged or confused with one another.

Ongoing monitoring

Listings drift. Directories scrape old data and reintroduce errors, so we re-scan periodically and correct anything that reverts.

Deliverables

What our local citation building services include

You get a full picture of where your business appears online and control over what it says, plus the logins so nothing is locked behind us.

Citation inventory

A spreadsheet of every listing found, its URL, the details it currently shows, and whether it matches your canonical NAP.

Canonical NAP record

One agreed, definitive version of your name, address, and phone, formatted consistently, which everything else is corrected against.

Corrections completed

Submissions made and tracked through to confirmation, since many directories take weeks to approve a change and need chasing.

Duplicate resolution log

A record of every duplicate found, what happened to it, and confirmation once removal or merge is complete.

Account credentials

Logins for every listing we create or claim, handed to you. Your listings should never be hostage to an agency relationship.

Consistency score

A before-and-after match rate across audited sources, re-checked quarterly so you can see drift being corrected rather than accumulating.

How we work

How our local citation building services run

Scan and inventory

We find every existing listing, including old ones from previous owners, former addresses, and directories that scraped your details years ago.

Agree your canonical NAP

One definitive format for name, address, and phone. Sounds trivial, and it is the step that decides whether the rest of the work holds together.

Clean, then build

Corrections and duplicate removal first, new listings second. Building on top of conflicting data just spreads the inconsistency further.

Monitor for drift

Quarterly re-scans catch directories that revert to scraped data, which happens more often than most businesses expect.

Investment

How much do local citation building services cost?

Usually a fixed-price project for the audit and cleanup, with optional quarterly monitoring afterwards. Two things drive the price.

How much mess there is

A business that has never moved, never rebranded, and never changed number needs very little. One that has done all three over fifteen years can have dozens of conflicting listings to unpick.

How many locations

Each branch needs its own consistent set, and multi-location businesses carry the extra risk of branches being merged or confused with each other in aggregator data.

Be cautious of anyone selling citations by the hundred for a flat fee. That model exists because submitting to low-quality directories is cheap and easy to automate, not because it works. Paying more for thirty accurate, properly claimed listings beats paying less for five hundred you cannot control.

Common questions about local citation building

Any online mention of your business name, address, and phone number, whether or not it links to your website. Directory listings, review sites, chamber of commerce pages, and social profiles all count. Consistency across them is what signals to search engines that your details are reliable.

Fewer than most agencies suggest. Thirty to fifty accurate listings on platforms people genuinely use will serve almost any local business. Beyond that you hit diminishing returns quickly, and packages promising hundreds are usually padding with directories that carry no weight.

Close is generally fine. Search engines handle common variations such as Street and St, or Suite and Ste. What causes real problems is genuinely different data: an old address, a former phone number, or a business name that has changed. Those are worth fixing properly.

This is the most common cause of citation problems we see. Old listings persist for years and keep feeding outdated data back into the ecosystem. A full audit and cleanup is worth doing after any move, ideally within the first month rather than a year later.

The audit takes days. The corrections take longer, because many directories review submissions manually and some take four to six weeks to publish a change. Expect two to three months for a full cleanup to be reflected everywhere.

No, and we would rather say so. Citations support prominence, but your Google Business Profile, reviews, and proximity matter more. Citation work removes a handicap rather than creating an advantage. It is necessary, not sufficient.
