Google Business Profile optimization that gets you chosen, not just found
Your profile is the shopfront most customers see before your website. Our Google Business Profile optimization fills in what is missing, fixes what is wrong, and turns listing views into calls and visits.
We manage profiles for single-site businesses and multi-location brands alike.
What is Google Business Profile optimization?
Google Business Profile optimization is the work of completing and improving the free business listing that appears in Google Maps and the local map pack. It covers your primary and secondary categories, services, business description, photos, opening hours, attributes, posts, questions, and review activity. Done properly, it is the single highest-impact task in local search.
The reason it matters so much is that the profile often replaces your website entirely. Somebody searching for a plumber sees your rating, your hours, your photos, and a call button without ever visiting your site. That decision gets made inside Google, which means your profile is doing the selling whether you have optimised it or not.
Most profiles we audit are perhaps 40% complete. The business claimed the listing years ago, added a category and a phone number, and never returned to it.
What our Google Business Profile optimization covers
Every field below is either a ranking signal, a conversion signal, or both. We work through all of them and keep them current.
Categories
Your primary category carries more ranking weight than almost anything else on the profile. We test it against competitors ranking above you rather than guessing, then add the secondary categories that widen your reach without diluting relevance.
Services and products
Every service you offer, listed individually with its own description. This is one of the most neglected sections and one of the most useful, because it feeds relevance for searches your category alone will not match.
Photos and video
Geotagged, properly named, and regularly refreshed. Businesses with active photo libraries get materially more direction requests and calls, and stale photos quietly cost you the click.
Business description
750 characters that explain what you do, where, and for whom, written to read naturally while covering the terms people actually search for.
Hours and attributes
Regular hours, holiday hours, and the attributes that matter in your sector such as wheelchair access, parking, or appointment requirements. Wrong hours are a fast route to a one-star review.
Posts and updates
Regular posts covering offers, news, and events. They keep the profile active, occupy more space in the result, and give you another place to answer common questions.
Questions and answers
The section most businesses never look at, where competitors and confused customers can post answers on your behalf. We seed the real questions and answer them properly.
Review management
A system for generating reviews consistently, plus replies to all of them. Response rate is visible to customers and signals a business that is actually paying attention.
Service area setup
Configured correctly for how you actually operate, whether you serve customers at your address, travel to them, or both. Getting this wrong limits where you can appear at all.
Mistakes that get profiles suspended
Google suspends business profiles more readily than most owners realise, and recovering one is slow and unpleasant. These are the things that trigger it.
Keywords stuffed into the business name. Adding your service and city to the name field is the most common suspension cause we see. It sometimes works briefly, which is why people keep doing it, and then the listing disappears. Your name field should contain your actual business name.
A virtual office or address you do not staff. Google requires a genuine presence at the address, staffed during stated hours. Mailbox addresses and coworking desks used purely for local ranking get removed, often after a competitor reports them.
Duplicate listings for the same location. Usually created accidentally over the years by different staff. They split your reviews and signals, and Google may suspend one or both rather than pick a winner.
Bought or incentivised reviews. Beyond the policy breach, the pattern is detectable and the damage outlasts any benefit. We have seen businesses lose years of genuine reviews cleaning up after a cheap review package.
If your profile is already suspended, do not create a new one. That compounds the problem. There is a reinstatement process, and it depends on documenting a genuine business at a genuine address.
What our Google Business Profile optimization includes
You get the profile rebuilt and then kept alive, because an optimised profile that nobody touches for six months slowly loses ground to one that is maintained.
Competitive category audit
We check which categories the businesses outranking you use, so your primary category is chosen from evidence rather than intuition.
Full profile build-out
Every field completed: categories, services, description, attributes, hours, and service area, with copy written rather than pasted from your homepage.
Photo strategy
Guidance on what to shoot and how often, plus upload and naming handled by us so the library stays current without it becoming your job.
Review generation setup
An automated request flow triggered after a job or purchase, plus reply templates so responses stay quick and human.
Monthly posts and Q&A
Posts published on a schedule and the questions section actively managed so competitors cannot answer on your behalf.
Insights reporting
Searches, views, calls, direction requests, and website clicks reported monthly, so you can see the profile producing enquiries rather than just existing.
How our Google Business Profile optimization runs
Audit and benchmark
We record your current completeness, categories, review position, and map rankings against the competitors who are beating you.
Fix the foundations
Categories, services, description, hours, and service area corrected first, because these carry the most ranking weight and take the least time.
Build activity
Photos, posts, questions, and reviews worked continuously. Activity signals a live business and compounds over months.
Track and adjust
Map position and profile actions monitored monthly, with category and content tweaks tested where you are still losing ground.
How much does Google Business Profile optimization cost?
There are two ways to buy this, and which fits depends on whether your profile needs fixing once or running continuously.
One-off optimisation
A fixed fee to audit and rebuild the profile completely: categories, services, description, photos, attributes, and review setup. Sensible if you have someone in-house who can maintain it afterwards.
Ongoing management
A monthly fee covering posts, photos, questions, review responses, and reporting. Sensible if nobody internally will realistically keep it active, which is most businesses.
The profile itself is free, which is what makes this unusually good value. You are paying for the work and the judgement, not for access. For most local businesses the one-off rebuild pays for itself well inside the first month of extra calls.

Your website still has to rank in the organic results below the map, which is where on-page work earns its keep.
Optimise my pages →Common questions about Google Business Profile optimization
Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in 2021 and retired the separate app, moving management into Search and Maps directly. The terms refer to the same product, and plenty of people still use the old name.
The most specific one that describes your main service, not the broadest. Primary category carries substantial ranking weight, so we check what the businesses already ranking above you use rather than guessing. Add secondary categories for genuine additional services only.
Weekly is plenty, and consistency matters more than volume. Posts keep the profile active and take up more space in the result, but they are a supporting signal rather than a major ranking factor. Categories, reviews, and completeness matter more.
You should not. It breaches Google's guidelines and is the most common reason profiles get suspended. It can produce a short-term ranking bump, which is why the practice persists, and then the listing is removed. Use your real business name.
Report it through the profile for policy violation, and reply publicly and calmly in the meantime, because future customers read the response as much as the review. Genuine removals do happen but take time, and a measured reply often does more good than the removal would.
Yes. The process depends on documenting a genuine business at a genuine address, usually with signage, utility bills, or registration documents. Do not create a replacement listing, as that makes reinstatement considerably harder.
